LITHUANIA - LATVIA - ESTONIA


DAY 1:  VILNIUS

Arrival in Vilnius. Have a private transfer to the hotel, check in. Evening at leisure and overnight in Vilnius. 

 

DAY 2: VILNIUS 

Have a breakfast at hotel.

Private Vilnius Soviet Tour (2,5hrs)
On the 11th of March 1990, Lithuania became the first country to declare indecency from the USSR after 50 years of Soviet occupation.
The recent history is explored on this tour - what was everyday life for Lithuanians under Communism? This walking tour guides you through the city, showing places that were a bit different as recently as 30 years ago. Highlights include the Concrete blocks (covered with freedom graffiti) which once formed part of the 1991 barricades; several Communist era sights along Gedimino Avenue (once Lenin Avenue) - now the main shopping street in Vilnius; the monument dedicated to the victims of the mass deportations to Siberia. Visit the main Soviet heritage sites and see the places that most foreign travelers miss.

Have a free time for the lunch. 

Have a guided visit KGB Museum - the former KGB building, where the crimes of the Soviet regime were planned and executed for fifty years. Feel the cold and damp from the former KGB prison, visit the premises where death sentences were implemented and learn about the repressions by Soviet authorities.

Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Vilnius.


DAY 3: VILNIUS - RIGA

Have breakfast at the hotel. Check out and have a transfer (4,5hrs) to Riga - the capital of Latvia.

Arrive in Riga. Have a free time for the lunch. 

In afternoon private Soviet Riga Tour (2,5 hrs)

A private walking tour covers Riga Old Town from different perspective and point of view than traditional. During the tour, we will get answers on two questions. What people lost after 1991 the time when Latvia get independence? What are the circumstances we are still dealing with even after 25 years of independence?

Experience the life „behind the Iron Curtain!” We will talk about shortages of everyday goods in the shops, the voucher system and how people were dealing with it. We will discuss the factories and production principles, religion, Soviet nationalization and businesses nowadays, fight against nationalism and it`s different shapes. See the monuments and real-time movies of Barricades – movement to protect strategically important places in 1991, when Soviet Special Forces were attacking Riga. Visit the “real” Soviet communal apartment and discover how people lived in Soviet times. 

Overnight in Riga.
 

DAY 4: RIGA

Have breakfast at the hotel.

Have the private tour to the Occupation Museum where the guide will tell about the Soviet and Nazi occupation of Latvia during 2nd World War. 

After lunch enjoy ride around the city by Soviet car.

The best way to feel the Soviet era is to feel it - drive on Riga`s streets by Soviet car Volga (GAZ), Zhiguli (VAZ), Moskvich or any other model produced in 1980-ties based on current availability.
Have a retro drive up to Riga TV Tower, which is 368 meters high and owns the status of the third highest TV tower in the whole of Europe. It is 4 meters higher than the Eifel Tower. Built-in 80-ties, it will take you up to 97 meters high viewing platform in 42 seconds. The guide will tell you about interesting details including happenings at TV tower in 1991.

Have a free afternoon and overnight in Riga.


DAY 5: RIGA – LIGATNE – TALLINN  

Have breakfast at the hotel. Check out and drive to Ligatne (1,3 hrs) and join for the Secret Soviet bunker tour.

Secret Soviet Nuclear Bunker
Visit a secret Soviet facility with the cover name “Vacation Hotel”. Located 9 m underground in the territory of the rehabilitation center Ligatne, there is a well-equipped bunker with a total area of 2,000 sq.m, whose secrecy grading was removed only in 2003. The bunker was built in the 1980’s for the political and state elite in case of nuclear war. This was the most strategically important place in Soviet Latvia in case of nuclear war, a self-sustaining structure with all necessary and high-end (for that time) equipment. All the authentic underground furnishings have been retained!

What can be seen here?
- plans and projections regarding what would happen if all hydropower stations were destroyed, which territories would be under the water and how this would affect large towns;
- an autonomous electrical station with a diesel generator and fuel reservoirs;
- equipment for air purification;
- a special telecommunications unit that secured direct communication with the Moscow Kremlin and autonomous communication with key services throughout the country;
- materials of the XXII Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union;
- canteen with a typical Soviet menu;
- Various Soviet memorabilia and household items.
Feel the chill from the Cold War!

Visit Partisan bunker which is created according to tales and memories of partisans. Hear the stories about partisan movement in Latvian forests and have a look at a small military exposition. Latvian national partisans or locally called “mežabrāļi” were small armed groups who were fighting against the Soviet occupation regime in Latvian territory from 1944 to 1956. These were people who could not or did not want to live in the Soviet Union and were forced to hide in the forests. Total Latvian forests operated approximately 20193 partisans.

Have a free time for lunch and continue to Tallinn (Estonia). Arrive in Tallinn in the early evening and check in.


DAY 6: TALLINN  

Have breakfast at the hotel.    

Private Soviet Tallinn tour (2,5hrs)
Discover sights, monuments and interesting places where the remains of the Soviet Union still left. You will see some of the prominent buildings of Soviet-era – the notorious KGB Headquarters and see Olympic Yacht Centre, which was specially built for the Olympic Regatta in 1980. You will see monuments like the Maarjamäe War Memorial and the Bronze Soldier as well as pass by Patarei Prison area. The guide will tell you interesting facts and stories of those years – you will learn a lot about how people lived and how much life has changed.

Free afternoon in Tallinn on your own. Overnight in Tallinn.


DAY 7: TALLINN 

Have breakfast at the hotel. Check out, have a transfer to Tallinn airport and departure.
