Medieval Spirit in Cesis & Araisi
Cesis is one of the most beautiful and charming towns in Baltic States with legends and stories from past. The historical town has it own unique charisma and spirit which has been attracting many conquerors during eight centuries and tempting many visitors and travelers nowadays.
Since 1206 Cesis appears in historical documents as the place where German Crusaders began to construct a stone castle. After Cesis castle becomes a residence of the master of the Livonian Order, Cesis developed as noteworthy trading centre. The city joined the Hanseatic League and had a local branch of the international Guild of Blackheads, the Small and the Big Guild. CÄ“sis was a city with the international significance and there are many sights which tell about the power of the town till nowadays.
After lunch brake visit the Araisi lake fortress, which was built on a low, frequently inundated islet in the lake, connected to the shore by means of an 80-metre-long natural bank of glacial till.
