The guide is mostly made for foreign travelers who have little or no information about Latvia. It offers information on the history and geography of Latvia as well as about such day-to-day subjects as shopping, driving habits, public toilets and transports, language, customs, holidays, and much more. There are 400 tourist attractions supplemented with photographs, and more than 100 maps of Latvia, contact details of 280 museums and 1,450 tourist accommodations in all Latvia's regions.
City Launches 3D Map of Old Town

The Tallinn Planning Department is launching a 3D map of Old Town, allowing virtual guests to visit private courtyards and walk around on rooftops. The virtual tour of the 121-hectare Old Town includes panorama photos both inside and outside. Sites include the medieval city wall, government buildings, churches, as well as hotels, restaurants, venues and museums.
Litas coins to feature Lithuanian resorts

Lithuanian coins of different design dedicated to Lithuanian resorts and resort sites, will be issued in 2012 and in 2013. By a resolution of the Bank of Lithuania, a series of coins of this denomination is to be launched for the first time with these coins appearing in circulation every several months.

Latvia turns Soviet military past into tourist draw

A special heritage map listing 60 sites has been produced, but the idea is to build an online database of hundreds of locations to tap the military tourism market that could attract wealthy foreign visitors on Baltic cruises or city breaks. That sentiment is echoed by Asnate Ziemele of the Latvian Country Tourism Association, which has included “Truck excursions through former Soviet tank training zones” tours in a new European Union-backed project which aims to make the most of Latvia's military heritage sites. Small European countries developing health tourism

REI Holding Group - a global property developer, is planning to build a luxury hospital in Estonia to attract wealthy patients from abroad. The medical tourism project will combine a hospital with a luxury hotel. The Estonian government is an enthusiastic supporter of a project which for a country of only 1.5 million people will provide a large number of jobs for local people, and help encourage nurses and doctors to stay rather than emigrate in search of a career.

Lithuania will host EuroBasket 2011

The European Basketball Championship of 2011 universally referred to as EuroBasket 2011, will be the 37th regional championship held by FIBA Europe. The competition will be hosted by Lithuania. A total of 24 teams will participate in Eurobasket 2011. The group matches are set to be played in four national arenas, including Kaunas Arena, Siauliu arena, an arena in Panevezys and an arena in Klaiped. The qualifying matches are to be played at the Siemens Arena in the capital Vilnius or the new Kaunas arena.

Estonia welcomes the Euro

From 1st of January 2011 Estonia becomes 17th member of the euro zone - the first ex-Soviet state to adopt the EU single currency. The changeover from the kroon to the euro started at midnight from 31st of December 2010 to 1st of January 2011 in the small Baltic nation of 1.3m people. Euro will improve the daily life of the country's 1.34 million people by making travel elsewhere in the EuroZone easier and cheaper, with no need to change currencies and pay commissions.
